Does God care about our eating habits? What does God say about healthy living? Well let's have a chit chat for a moment to find out the answer in this introductory lesson.
Once upon a time ...
Alright it's not a fairy tale, it's all true.
There’s a group of people in the earth right now, called Israelites. They truly exist. They are from the lineage of Jacob (whose name was changed to Israel). Jacob had 12 sons each forming a separate Tribe. Anyone that is born within the lineage of one of these tribes is called an Israelite.
Throughout the bible, especially the Old Testament, you will often realize that many times God referred to the ancient Israelites as his people; his children; his wife. In other words, they belonged solely to God; for his purpose, pleasure and glory.
In the Torah which is the first 5 books of the Old Testament, it outlines what they should wear, how they should treat their bodies, the right way to praise and worship, treat their neighbors and yes, God even taught them on healthy living. Was God being strict?
To some, it might often seem like that was the case.
But, is that entirely true?
Now God, being loving and concerned, knew and understood what would be the fate of his people, if they were left to themselves. If they continued on their path, it would ultimately lead to death.
So he fed them with knowledge. He took his time and went into detail about every aspect of life. His intention was not only for the ancient Israelites to ‘Thrive but also to Survive’. So our God was actually not being strict but simply being ‘protective’.
God cared about living a healthy life then and he cares about is living a healthy Christian life, now.
Today, God has adopted us. We have received of his Holy Spirit, wherein we cry Abba Father. He has become our Father as well, and we are also his children. Now let us read what the bible says about this:
So because we are ‘in Christ’ then we are also counted as the seed of Abraham and have also inherited every promise of God that is written in the Holy Bible.
This means then, that God loves us just the same, and is protective of us as well. He wants us to also Thrive and Survive. He is therefore equally concerned about our health and our healthy eating habits.
We were selected by God, to be candles of light in a dark world. Our words, our praises, and our lifestyle must show others that there is hope and there is healing, all found in Jesus.
What good is it, if God should bless us with abundance but we are too sick to enjoy it? Can we really minister to the needs of this dying world if we are sick and dying as well? That’s why he is concerned about every area of our lives which includes our Christian health.
One of God’s guarantees to the seed of Abraham, if we would keep his commandments, in health and long life. So we claim this promise in the name of Jesus.
Your personal choice may be to follow the diet that was given by God in the Old Testament.
If this is so, then by all means, go right ahead. Any direction that comes from God and the bible can only lead to our healthy living and prosperity, and not for our harm.
