There is so much you need to know about salvation. This Christian salvation starter guide will break it down for you.

This Christian salvation starter guide is two-fold:

  • Use it to make an informed decision when accepting Jesus into your life
  • Use it to arm yourself with sufficient information and clarity when sharing the gospel to friends

You'll find lessons to:

There's a whole lot of lesson for you, so jump in.

Section 1: Who is God?

God is a Spirit

John 4:24 KJV: “God is a Spirit and they that worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth”.

This means that he is invisible, not composed of matter and without parts. He has no mass and cannot be bottled or stored in one place. He is not aware of gravity, or time limits. He cannot be contained or detained. He has no weights. He is just simply God

God being Spirit made man and gave us a portion of himself, which is his Spirit.

One of the major arguments for the existence of God is that we cannot see him.

But on a normal day, can we see the wind?

We know it is there because we can feel its effects on our skin, and see the movement of the leaves, or hear its whistle through the trees, but can we really see it?

Forgive me for going a little crazy with this analogy but ….

If we lost our sight and our sense of touch, feel and hearing, even though the wind was around, we would not have a clue.

But would that make the wind any less real?

That’s exactly what happened.

When Adam sinned, we lost our connection with God. We could no longer feel him, hear and understand him. We became carnal or fleshly.

So, like my wind analogy, even though He is around, we do not have a clue.

Let’s look a little closer to that word ‘carnal’  to see exactly what happened to us:

The Greek word for ‘carnal’ is sarkikos ( taken from Biblehub)  which pertains

"to behavior which is typical of human nature, but with special focus upon more base physical desires"

So we were no longer able to understand and connect with our God anymore because he is a Spirit and we became fleshy; focusing only upon our physical desires.

Here’s how Paul puts it:

Romans 8: 7 “ Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be”

1 Corinthians 2: 14 “ But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him; neither can he know them ( he cannot understand them) because they are spiritually discerned.

There’s so much more to learn about who God is: it's endless ( learn more about God here). He is creator of the universe and mankind; the Lord of heaven and earth, Sovereign, Everlasting, Eternal, Endless in Power, Holy in nature, all knowing, ageless and unchanging.

And if you can see his eyes… wow, he can only see us through eyes of Love.

He sees NOT who we are right now but who he has chosen us to be. Sons of God! and Daughters of Zion.

Section 2: So why is Christian salvation important anyway?

Have 31% of the world's population lost their mind? Or is salvation really such a big deal?

It is.

Why you ask?

Because of sin.

Sin caused a big separation between God and man. But if that wasn’t enough, here comes the real problem …

Romans 6: 23 “ The wages ( payment) of sin is death, but the gift ( something given at no cost to you) of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord”

Sin not only separated us from the sweetest relationship that we ever had, but it also brought death. The ultimate sentence for sin is death.

Whether we like to believe it or not, we were all born into a life of sin. Before we even took one breath, we were already labeled sinners.

Are you Wondering ...

How can this be even fair?

It isn’t. God knows that it isn’t. That's the reason for salvation. That’s why he sent Jesus Christ to die for our sins

Romans 5: 12, 17 “ Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned”

“ For if by one man’s ( Adam) offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ”

And verse 19 for me seals the deal!

“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous”

Jesus Christ: the father/son relationship

Jesus being the ‘Son of God’ is the channel through whom the Father carries out his purpose.

Like a socket. There is power in that socket, but in order to get that power to ‘power-up’ a blender, it would need a connection: either a cord or an extension cord. The power then flows through that cord and wham!

We have life people!

That blender begins making wonderful music to the ears.

So, God is the source of all things. But in order for Him to get to us he used a medium, a connection, a channel, a conduit, which is Jesus Christ.

Jesus stated this when he said ‘ I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me’

Jesus was God in the flesh.

And he came to perform the most wonderful act: take our place for sin. That 'whosever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life'. He chose to save us.

What 'Save' Means

The  Greek word for  "save or salvation" is "soterio / sozo" which  actually means to be made completely whole. It is not only about the washing away of sin but includes

  • Salvation For the Spirit [ here's an in-depth lesson, so that you can see the big picture]
  • Deliverance for the Soul
  • Healing of the Body

Jesus Christ was the body that God used to commune with man, and ultimately die for our sins that we could again be given the opportunity of salvation.

John 1 verse 1 says “in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. The same was in the beginning with God”

John 1 verse 14 says “the word was made flesh and we beheld the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”

God made a way for our deliverance. Without him we would all be left in the state of sin without a hope. So God clothed himself in flesh ( Jesus) to die for our sins and reunite us back unto himself ( 1 Corinthians 5: 19) which has been the greatest love and gift exhibited to man.

Jesus was 100% man and 100% God.

Colossians 2:9 “ For in him dwelleth the fullness of the Godhead bodily”

The fullness …not the ‘halfness’. lol

The fullness.

Which means the whole thing!

The fullness of God. Everything God is, he ( Jesus) was. We saw God’s image. We were able to touch God and listen to his voice, and eat with him.

It’s getting exciting up in session on Christian salvation. lol

Does this mean that there is more than one God in heaven?

No there isn’t.

There is only one God.

Deut 4: 35 says “Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him”

1 Corinthian 8: 4 “ … we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one”

And that right there shows the amazing power of a mighty God. lol.

It literally blows my mind.

There is no limitation in Him. Nothing is impossible for him to do.

God manifest himself in three ways. Father in creation, and then clothed himself in flesh as Jesus Christ for our redemption and then as Holy Ghost our comforter, helper and guide.

He did this all for us. To bring us to salvation and to keep us there!

So how is it possible for us to fail?

As Paul says

1 Timothy 3:16 “ and without controversy great is the mystery of Godliness. God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believe on in the world, received up unto glory”

Section 3: The Way to Christian salvation: 'How can I Be Saved?"

Christian salvationpin and help share the Word

There are 5 main steps that every one of us must take for salvation. Well, it’s more like 4 + 1. I’ll explain what I mean. The first four steps are:

  1. Believe : that God sent his Son Jesus Christ to die for your sins. That he died and rose again and because he did, we will as well.
  2. Confess : confession of your sins to Jesus Christ. Acknowledging that you know that you need his help.
  3. Repentance: Not only asking for Jesus Christ to forgive, but repentance also means a ‘complete turn around’. So tell that old life and old man ‘I bid you adieu’! It’s Jesus way from now on.
  4. Baptism: In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This step is for the washing away of sins. We go down and come up ‘clean, clean, clean’ ( this puts me in the mind of that nursery rhyme: there was a man I know, his skin was white as snow … do you know that one?)

These are the four first steps to salvation and many believers stop at these four steps alone. But there is yet one more.

Romans 8: 9 says But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his”.

Without the Spirit of God we are none of His.

Harsh isn’t it?

But Paul said this so plainly to show the importance of this final step.

This step cannot be left out. It seals the deal for us as children of the King and gives us eternal life. It helps us not only to get BUT remain connected to God. Without this final step, spiritual maturity will seem impossible.

This final Step is Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost
