Description of God Bible Study

In this description of God Bible study we will reveal His heart, His nature and His purpose for us all

The creator of this world is not a mean, spiteful, hurtful God, as some would say that he is. In reality he is loving, forgiving and honest.

Description of God's Heart

God's Heart is Forgiving

We have heard other description of God as being merciless and intolerant and ruthless. But this is not so. Even the Pharisees and Sadducee portrayed God as a merciless God that was without compassion. But Jesus, who is the image of God showed who God really is. He opened God's heart and revealed that he was great in compassion, mercy and forgiveness. No sin was too great that God would not forgive.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness- 1 John 1:9

Once we come to ourselves and seek for forgiveness, he promises that he will forgive us and not hold it to our account. Everyday our account is wiped clean when we go to God for forgiveness. He is not vengeful or spiteful. What a mighty God we serve! We can reset in him knowing that our sins and mishaps are not stained on God’s mind.

God's Heart is Honest

Every word that comes from the mouth of God is 100% reliable and credible. He is always honest. This means that once he says it, then it will come to pass. Everything that he says about the future, you can be certain that it will happen, and if he says that he will do something, be sure that it will be done.

Every promise he makes is sure. He cannot lie. If the answer is no, then he will tell you no. The same goes if the answer is yes. We may not see the reasons why he says no to a request but he sees our future and he know the negative impact it will have on our lives, if we were to have what we have requested.

He is not deceptive. He can be fully trusted to do what is right at all times.

'In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began' - Titus 1:2

 God is LOVE

This is not just a description of God; This IS God. God is Love.

'Beloved let us love one another, for love is of God and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God for God is love. 1 John 4: 7-8

The very essence of Him; His heart, his nature, his purpose, every thought that he has; everything he does, is done in love. When he sees you, he sees you through the eyes of Love and he can't help but be this way because he is LOVE.

Now, If you found a partner who was Honest, Helpful, Easy to relate to, Creative, Forgiving, Humble, Patient, Loyal and Kind....Wouldn't you keep him / her? This answer goes with saying but I am going to say it anyway.... Yes, of course, you will! I most certainly will!

God is the complete package. There is nothing that you can lack when you have him. We’ll discuss more about a few of these traits as we go on to discover God's Nature:

Description of God's Nature

Apart from being approachable, helpful, and pure in motives and intentions,

God is Humble

God's perfect description of God’s humility was exhibited when a most powerful God, wrapped himself in flesh, and died for a people who hated him. He did this all because he loved us and wanted to give us a second chance.

He went through such pain and suffering just to redeem man back unto himself. He was accused and reviled against, yet he never opened his mouth and said a word.

'And being found in fashion as a man he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross: Phillipians 2:8

A King, sat with Publicans and Sinners ( the outcasts of society) and ate meals with the lowest within society. This is a perfect example of his nature and humility.

God is Loyal

'... lo I am with you alway, even unto the ends of the world A-men. 'Matt 28: 20

God cannot forsake his people. He is loyal in nature. He sticks by our side every step of the way and he has promised to be there when we call. He has promised to be with us alway ( or everywhere we go) . In the time of trouble he does not desert us, but he carries us through the storm. We have a promise from him that he will never leave us, nor forsake us.'

God is Protective

'For he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways. 'Psalms 91:11

This is surely true to God’s description. There are countless time when I have seen the hands of God’s protection in my life, delivering from accidents and harm. At time he even protect me from myself ( yep! a silly decisions in my life that could have ended very horribly for me but God protected me) He protects his own. We are precious to God and he literally has a heavenly host of warring angels to protect his people against danger. He is concerned about our safety so that's why he places a hedge around us so that nothing can harm us. He sees afar off into the future and makes preparation for when we get there. He is our victor. When he fights our battles he always comes out victorious!

Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip 'Psalms 18: 36

God is Constant in Goodness

Psalms 34:8 says

‘O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man that trusteth in him’

The word taste actually means:

  •  to perceive, to taste, to examine, or to experience

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘experience teaches’? Well this is one such instance. We can easily repeat with our mouths daily, that God is a good God, but it is only when we have constantly experienced his goodness towards us; only then, can we truly say that he is GOOD.

This is what intimacy with God teaches us. In the lesson 1 in Who is God we explained that God is ‘constant’. This means that he never changes. In this introductory bible series we've discussed many descriptions of God that he is forgiving, loyal, honest, protective, humble merciful, kind, all wise and we can go on.

So throughout our intimate walk with Christ, as we stay in his presence; when we call upon him in the time of pain and worry; even when we fall short of his expectations, we will discover that the one thing that never changes is ‘his goodness towards us’. He will always exhibit these qualities and nothing can change that fact. He is always

  • Generous, Kind,
  • Pleasant, Merciful, Just and,
  • Gives Us Favor

Experience teaches us that God never fails. He will always come through for us. It teaches us that he wants nothing but good for us, so we can safely trust in him.

Description of God's Purpose

In addition to being his instrument of praise and worship; in addition to being his instrument of service; God’s purpose for us is to live a complete and fulfilled life. Yes my friend God want us to have it all, lacking nothing. The whole theme of this website is based around this very same scripture.

3 John 1: 2 “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

So then God is not only interested in the saving of our spirit, but the deliverance of our souls and the healing of our bodies. Once we understand this, then we can safely trust in his direction, knowing that the outcome will be worth it.

Now we can understand this scripture:

Psalms 34 says ‘blessed ( happy, fortunate, and envied by others’) is the man that trusteth in him’

Psalms says, once we trust in God we will be ‘happy, fortunate, and envied by others’. When we can relax, have peace and put our reliance in the integrity, ability and surety of God, knowing that everything is safe in his hands, others will realize a constant state of contentment and happiness. It just comes with the territory.

We will soon recognize that the pleasure that God has towards us will begin to draw the favor of others. People will begin to be drawn to you. Whether to ask for advice, share their life’s stories with you, ask for prayer. Doors will begin to open in your life. God will use the hands of others to bless you.

As I continue to spend time in his presence, I realize daily that there is still so much that I'm yet to discover. I am certain that by this time you have begun to grasp the magnitude of the God that we serve. Just being in the presence of such a mighty God excites me every time. There is no comparison that I can find to describe the fire, the love, the assurance that comes with his embrace.
