Look at this cup of water that has been placed before you. What do you see?
A cup half empty? ......OR
A cup half full?
If you answered a cup half empty, then you are absolutely correct!
If you answered a cup half full then..... you too are absolutely correct!
And that's what prosperity and poverty have in common.... your perception. The best term for this is the power of perception.
How you saw the glass would then determine what your next course of action would be. Will you be tempted to fill it to the brim or will you be tempted to empty it all? Our human perception is seen through our action or reactions to circumstances around us.
What am I saying here? How you perceive things will determine how you react to certain situations. This is the Power of Perception. Each individual perceive things in their own unique way, but our perception determines our thoughts and in turn determines not only why, but how we will respond to what’s taking place in our lives .
My Best Definition for the Power of Perception was found in Wikipedia:
It is the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment. Perception is not the passive receipt of these signals, but can be shaped by learning, memory and expectation.
To Simplify ....
"Perception is our own personal interpretation of what we see, hear, smell, taste and feel. It can also be shaped by what we have learnt, our memories, and our expectations"
Your individual perception is molded and shaped by how You see things in the world around you. Again I say, this power of perception is the driving force behind our emotions, actions and any future results that we might gain because the power of perception allows one individual to experience the joy and beauty of life and another to experience something completely different.
So Joan, are you trying to tell me that my present state is just an illusion? That my bills pilling up is just an illusion? The fact that I just lost my job, is just an illusion? And no food on the table, is a simple illusion too?
No I am actually not. Proverbs 23: 7 says it so much better than I ever can. It says
'As he thinketh in his heart, so is he...'
So even though your circumstance may be one of the above, or maybe something entirely different, the power of perception allows you to view every moment and every situation in your life as a means of growth, regardless of how it appears.
It is a stepping stone. There is a song that says 'the devil meant it for bad, but God meant it for my good'
Even when we feel like we are being buried alive ( so to speak ), our power of perception shows us that there is a way out.
All is simply not lost. Now let us look the power of perception being reflected in the words of a amazing man of wisdom. Paul said it so wonderfully:
Powerful, powerful scripture. Paul says, that it is a fact that all things
The Good , The Bad,
Life's Trial, The Hardships,
The Testings, The Smooth,
The Rough, the Happy Times
The Sad Times
Every Single Thing that you go through, every single thing that happens in your life - ALL THINGS ! Now here is the sweet part ......'work together for good'. You got that?
That 's SYNERGY! Everything working together to achieve one common goal.
Everything that happens in our life is one long winding road, in God's well designed master plan to get us to our purpose. Everything that happens is for our good. God's intentions is never bad.
We usually do not see the good when we are placed a bad situation, but it is only after, then we realize we have been made stronger or we have drawn closer to God, because of that self same condition.
View your journey through life, as a chain, right now. Each event that have occurred or will occur, represents a link in this chain. Each link is interlocked.
And together it forms a complete chain. But without one of these links the chain falls apart.
That is 'all things working together for our good. So with the power of perception we must see everything that happens as an avenue of growth. To make us stronger or wiser to bring you closer to our purpose.
So how do you view your present state or condition? What is your own perception of yourself, your abilities and your future?
Do you view it as a Glass Half Full : Filled with Potential and Possibilities to get better, and to add more?
Or Do you view it as a Glass Half Empty: Things are terrible and it can only get worst
Remember, how we perceive our life, determines our actions and reactions.
The Lie: is that things will never get any better
The Truth: You have the will and the power to get anything you want in life, but if you don't see yourself ever getting there, or attaining it, you will never do anything to reach it.
Our perception is linked with what the eyes can see and this can be very limiting. One key way in grasping and understanding how limited our perception can be is looking at the horizon.
By looking at the horizon, it forms the illusion that 1. the edge of the world is reachable. 2. If we continue beyond the edge, we will fall off.
But this is furthest from what is true.
This same illustration can be applied to our lives. We at times, do not venture farther than where our eyes can see. I call it the safe zone. Many person refer to it as fear of the unknown. So our fear is that if we journey too far, we will fall off the edge so we have never pushed ourselves to achieve much out of life, because of fear of failure.
Well I am here in this power of perception bible study to let you know that failure is just a perception. What you have experience is not actually failure, it was a means for growth. We are children of a King and we cannot fail. Failure is just not possible God meant it for your good.
All through this power of perception bible study, we discussed that the way we perceive things affects how we act or react to circumstances. It is also true that how we perceive things, also affects what we say .
So what have your words been like recently? Were they negative or positive words?
These words expose your personal perception of life.
Our individual perception does affect us and the power of perception affects every aspect in our life. What did the Proverbs say about this ? It says, 'what a man thinks, so is he'.
Proverbs expresses the state of our mind. What we think, reveals who we are, and what we will become. It is a never ending cycle that can only be broken by our conscious effort to change it. We do this by changing our mindset.
Keys to Changing our Perception : View each circumstance as an avenue for growth and look for the areas in which you can learn something new.
