What is the Holy Spirit? or maybe a better way of saying it is 'What is the Holy Ghost?' Well, this lesson is the first of a series of bible study sessions to make us better acquainted with this wonderful gift of God.
Let me begin with making this bold statement: God knows all things. He controls all things and He planned all things.
God knew that there will be times in our Christian lives when we will have questions that we cannot answer ourselves. He knew that there will be times when we will feel weak and hopeless and He knew that we will all possess a deep yearning to draw closer to his presence. He also knew that without His help, we will all fail.
because God knows all things, and because he understands the trials
that we will have to face, he gave us the one thing that will ensure our
victory... over 2000 years ago, He gave us Himself. He sent strength
through the Holy Ghost.
From the very moment that we said yes to Jesus, , you were given access to a Friend ( and only now I really understand that He is wayyyy more than just a friend).
This friend is the Holy Ghost that is available to everyone that believes on the name of Jesus. This Holy Ghost is the source of our spiritual strength and maturity. It is the source of the fruit of the Spirit, and the igniter of our spiritual gifts.
It is our intercessor, when we cannot pray, as we ought.
What is the Holy Ghost?
It is everything we need and more.
After we've believed, confessed, repented and baptized, then we must be sealed with the gift of God, which is the Holy Ghost.
This is a very important final step. Here's how Romans 8:9 puts it:
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his”.
Without the Spirit of Christ we are none of His.
Hash isn’t it?
But Paul said this so plainly to show the importance of this final step. Because he says clearly, without it He cannot identify us as His.
There is no cost applied to it. It is freely given.
For if God had applied a price for his Spirit, none of us would have been able to make a payment.
That's how valuable this Gift is. Imagine having a tool in your shop that can do everything. That can fix any problem. Would you go looking for another?
Now apply this concept to the Holy Ghost, for there is NO situation that he does not have a PHD ( hmmm, is there anything higher than a PHD?) in. None.
God's sole intention, even at the beginning, was to commune with us. In the Garden of Eden, he never missed a day that he would not come down to commune with Adam. That communion was lost when Adam sinned.
And as time went by and sin abounded we went more and more from God. But God never stopped wanting to be close to you and I. In fact he had no intention of staying apart from man for too long.
he provided a way that he can get even closer to us. Instead of merely
being around us God wanted to be inside us. To completely take over. Now
that's some intimacy right there!
If you allow Him, he will make us more and more like his image, Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 2: 12 - 14 ( KJV)
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
These are the 'things that are freely given to us by God' but in order to access them we need the key. Understanding what is the Holy Ghost is that key.
There's so much things about God that he wants us to know. They can only be revealed to us by his Spirit for in our natural state, we will not be able to understand why certain circumstances needs to take place.
Have you ever asked God, 'why can't things be easier? Does it take all this?'
In our natural state we will not be able to understand, but the task of the Holy Ghost is to teach us spiritual things.
It is not an overnight process.
But as time progresses, and we draw more closer to the light, we will begin to see things much clearer.
I am going for all that God has in store for me, and I want you to join me. Don't miss out on the awesome experience of intimacy with the Holy Ghost. It is the best thing has ever happen to me, and it will be for you.
Don't forget to comment, like and share before joining me in the next lesson.
